MAGIQ Software is proud to support the Torres Strait Biennial cultural festival, The Winds of Zenadth, which took place on Thursday Island from the 11-14 September.
The Winds of Zenadth Festival celebrates the practice, revitalisation and preservation of Torres Strait language, culture, art and ceremony and has been running for more than 30 years. The theme of this year’s festival was Stand Strong: Culture is our Foundation.
A diverse range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island cultural events took place over the four days including historical displays, boat races, art workshops and displays,
story-telling and music and dance performances
This year the traditional dance competition had a total of 19 performance groups from various communities across the Torres Straits.
Torres Strait Shire Mayor Vonda Malone described the event as ‘helping to promote Torres Strait culture to all Australians and show the diversity of people in the Torres Strait.’
“We are delighted to support Torres Shire Council in the staging of the Festival. It’s fantastic to see all of the communities across the Torres Strait come together and celebrate their cultural heritage in this way,” said Colin Lillywhite. Chief Executive Officer MAGIQ Software.
